Folk Art Angel

After doing the journal page I shared on Sunday this was the painting that came from it. It was done on canvas with acrylic paint, colored pencils, oil pastels and gold leaf. This angel has a very folk art look and her message is simple. Then she went to create her dreams. In the sky is writing almost like a journal page would be but in colors similar to the painting as not to distract. Here is another collage a close up of my folk art angel images from the painting. Click on either to enlarge.
Today I feel ready to create on canvas again. I have been doing some digital creating with my photography for this mini Photo Shop class as you know and I will share a few works later this week. The only thing that tugs at me is when I am working in digital media is I don't get to the paint brushes enough. I think there has to be a balance of paint vs computer for me. As much as I love digital there is something about creating with your hands, allowing yourself to get dirty with paint and pastels that feeling that you are more integrated with what you are working on. The rain has stopped here for the moment and although it is cold the sun is shining bright through the windows. A perfect day for painting.
How do you balance creating things and your computer time? Have you ever tried creating a folk art piece of work?

Pay attention to your dreams~ God's angels often pay attention to our hearts when we are asleep.
Eileen Elias Freeman

When angels visit us, we do not here the rustle of their wings, nor  feel their feathery touch of a breast of a dove; but we know their presence by the love they create in our hearts.

  1. Gorgeous work..i really love the sense of movement in this piece..it is like pure poetry and music! Hugs..wonderful!

  2. Hi Theresa! Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for your lovely note! I started a new full time job Jan 1st, that has taken a lot of my time...sigh. So I'm still adjusting. I'm just finishing up an angel painting too! The one you've done is adorable! Love the color palette. And it's so great that you are learning Photoshop. I worked in it for years as a graphic designer but I totally agree about the paints, brushes and getting your hands dirty! And I love the new design on your blog! Very cool! You are doing so great! Trying hard to keep up with my Flying friends!

    Love & blessings,
    xoxo Valerie

  3. Great messages and sweet angel Theresa!

  4. Hello Theresa, I agree -I think creativity comes within - with that said - it takes a good eye to get an amazing photo and to edit it well through photo shop - would love to have it and the training!
    Either way is wonderful,

  5. This is a winner for me because I love angels, the folk art style and the beautiful colours!

I love having the feel of paint, glue, paper etc. A computer can't give you this tactile sensory experience. But I do love the opportunities technology gives us as well.

    Kat :-)

  6. Hi Kiki, thanks for your lovely words and support!
Dearest Valerie, I know how it is to work full time and keep up the creativity it is such a challenge. Glad you like the blog face lift. Stay in touch my fellow flyer.
Theresa, thanks for stopping in and your lovely comment!
Hi Kathy, Yes Photo Shop is definitely a skill to have. If I hear of Kim offering a free class I will give her a shout out here for you to find out about it!
Hi again Kat, Glad you enjoy the folk art style. I actually have done tole painting before and honestly have had to force myself to loosen up, but I love combining the styles. Totally agree about the sensory experience but love technology too!
Have a wonderful week everyone! ~Theresa

  11. What a wonderful angel! I tend to hang on the computer. I have some how stopped watching TV and replaced it with the computer. Now I am trying to curve the computer and create more. I have to step awayyyyy!!!

  12. Love, love, love the gold leaf! Now that's something that just can't be done in Photoshop. At least not as well. Beautiful piece, Theresa!

  13. What a lovely angel Theresa! The combination of media works really well - the gold leaf is beautiful.

I know exactly what you mean about needing to find a balance in your work - working in mixed media is a great solution for me as I get to play with everything lol!
